1) Race and racism have a long history in the U.S.The story I learned before,Oprah Winfrey, Jackie Robinson and Arrangement in black and white. These story showed prejudice and discrimination are big issues and controversies related to our lives.Even the U.S is a democratic state, but racism still exist.
2) Story came from Amy Vanderbilt,a little boy kept turning around to smile to an elderly Negro. This one more attractive to me because it show Children uncoached in prejudice and class-consciousness enjoy people for what they are. When them grow up,the environment, society and education change their concept, even though they didn't mean it.
3) A lot of things I didn't know before. For instance, how the racism better than before, essayists gave us much better understanding of what it was like to be an African-American in the 1950s and President Harry S. Truman desegregated the armed services in 1948.The situation is much better than before because many people contributed to the racism.
I am agree with Winnie's opinion. By this audio, I have learned more about the racism. With some people's fighting, the race is more better than before and people get more rights. The racism also exist. Racism is a big problem, but all thing is becoming better. And I believe, only if people insist to gain their right, the world will be more equal. Only you have faith, you will get you want in the future.
ReplyDeleteWinnie, I am glad you can see what has happened with racial relations over the years. And President Truman does deserve a lot of credit. Both you and Christine talk about both rights and hope. Yes, there has been improvement, but there is also room for more improvement.
