First of all, thank you for your very interesting comments on blog #2. It was especially good that so many of you commented on each other's comments.
The second part will be to listen again to the Dutch hymn "We Gather Together" ( see below). Can you paraphrase each verse in your own words, and try to express the overall message of the song?
Again please feel free to agree, disagree and argue with each other! And please post your comments where it says "Post a Comment."
Thank you,
Diana
1) I liked the first one more because it could summarize better than the second one. Both showed the same information, the second brought more details about the beginning, but on the other hand, the first focused on the most important information.
ReplyDelete2) Paraphrase about each verse
People pray together
God teaches and fixes us
Bad things are over
we praise to express gratitude; God always remember of us
He is always around taking care of us
He does not let evil win
to His side, we always overcome evil
thanks for God to be with us
All people praise for God
we want Him to continue to be our defender
let your followers out of trouble
May God always be remembered.
Jessica, I agree with you about the first video, the second one give us more details. I also liked you interpretation about the song the main point is thank God
DeleteI agree with you too, Jessica. On the first one, the information is so much clearly and summarized. It is really focused, and it has the main information. I like it most.
DeleteVery nice paraphrase, Jessica! I would suggest some minor changes:
DeleteV.1 "God always remembers us."
V.2 "Thanks to God for being with us."
V.3 "Keep your followers out of trouble."
Thanks,
Diana
1.- I like more the second video, it explains better about the origin of the Thanksgiving tradition. I like the images and the order of the things that happened. The first one is more concrete, it explains briefly the history and the traditions that Thanksgiving Day has.
ReplyDelete2.- We get all together to pray
God give us lessons
We do not have to worry more
Pray to God, he never forgets about us
God is always with us
With his fabulous kingdom
If we are with God we will be full
We are by God's side
We are all with God
God will be always with us
Let's forget about bad things
Honor God, make us plenitude
I agree with your point.I like the second video too.As you said,it give us examples about the tradition Thanksgiving and showed images.
DeleteI liked the second one too! Because gaves us more details 'bout the Thanksgivin's Meaning!!!
Delete:)
Ale, this is nice! I would suggest:
DeleteIn V.1, "We all get together..."
In V. 2 " If we are with God, we will be fulfilled:
In V. 3, the last line I would leave it saying " God, make us free."
( "Plenitude" is a noun meaning "fulness," so I wouldn't repeat that.")
Thanks,
Diana
I meant "fullness" ( 2 l's), as opposed to "fulfilled: ( 2 l's). Confusing!

ReplyDelete1. I like the second one more than the first one. Because the second one has more details. It explains pictures and notes clearly. The first one is much more like a outline, but the second one let me understand well about Thanksgiving.
ReplyDelete2. We pray together
God uses his way to make his will known to us
There're no more bad things
We pray and sing to him, he never forget us
You teach us ,live in our heart ,and protect our country
That's why we won the fight
Because you were at our side, all of the honor belong to you
We praise and pray that you will always be with us
let us overcome suffering and find happiness
We will always praise glory to you
Hi Winnie.
DeleteI agree with you. The pictures of the second video are nicer, and it is explained better.
I liked your meaning of the song.
Excellent paraphrase, Winnie! Just remember your 3rd person -Ss
Delete( forgetS, belongS) and, in the last line, you can say " We will always praise you ( implying that you will continue to praise God)."
Thanks,
Diana
1-. I liked more the second video, because it explains better the information, history and facts about Thanksgiving. Also, I liked the pictures. I think that that was an incredible way to comprehend better. It was very complete.
ReplyDelete2-. We gather to ask for blessing
God uses his power to let us know his|her existence.
The evil is not here anymore.
He will be always here.
He will be with us forever
maintaining his kingdom (Us)
We are blessed since we love him
We are at your side and will never abandon you
You are triumphant
You will look for us
Be happy and enjoy the moment
We hope your blessings.
To summarize, the song talks about the blessings of god and the things that he or she granted us.
:D
A very thoughtful paraphrase, Fabian. I especially like your gender-neutral possessive ( his/her). Attention to:
DeleteV.1 word order" He will always be here."
V.2 last line change to "You were at our side and will never abandon us."
V.3 "You will look after us" ( meaning "take care of us") and
"We ask ( or hope for) your blessing."
and I would strike out "Be happy and enjoy.."
Still very good!
Thanks,
Diana
1) Which is more informative? Which do you like better? Why?
ReplyDeleteThe second one is more informative because you can hear more details. Such as who are pylgrims, the indians, dates, staples, etc....!!! I think is more interesting the second one and that's the reason I like more thna the other. Now I know what's the meaning of Thanksgivin' Day!!!!
2) We pray together
God teache us
There's no worries anymore
Pray to God!
God is always here with us
Protect us everywhere
He'll always be here
God'll look for us anytime
Must enjoy the blessing
We hope the blessing of God.
The meaning of the song is: Must be greateful with God because he gaves us everything!!!
This is a good and clear paraphrase, Marco. A few minor suggestions:
DeleteIn V.1 "God teaches us.." and "There are no worries.."
In V. 2 "Protecting us everywhere.."
In V. 3 "God will always look after us" and "We hope for God's ( continued) blessing."
Thanks,
Diana
Those videos have different purposes. I have to explain about the thanksgiving in a school way, I certainly use the second. If my intention is to give information as an entertainment, then I would choose the first one.
ReplyDeleteMore than one is good to pray
ReplyDeleteGod tell us how to life
evil is far away
Our God is always taking care about us
If God is with you, never against you.
Thanks God cause you are by my side.
All together pray and ask to God to stay with us.
And we will share together the win against evil.
Hi, Fidel. I like the way you have simplified the messages of the verses here. Attention to:
DeleteV.1: "God tells us how to live" and "..is always taking care of us."
V.2: "God is with you..
"Thank God because He is at our side."
The rest is fine.
Thanks,
Diana
1.- Which is more informative? Which do you like better? Why?
ReplyDeleteI like more the second video because it has more information than the first. I like too the way that the author presents the information, it is more graphic. I thing that is an easy way to understand the Thanksgiving day.
2.- "We Gather Together"
People play together
to get god benediction
God show us wright way
We don't worry more
from devil
God don't forget us anymore
God always will walk with us
so he will stay near forever
We need pray to God
to leave bad things
let your followers
go with you
Mario, this is good. Attention to:
DeleteV.1 "People PRAY together
to receive God's benediction
God showS us the right way"
V.2 " We don't worry anymore ABOUT the deil
God DOESN'T forget us anymore.
All the rest is nice!
Thanks,
Diana
1. The second video was better in my opinion because it had more information about the origins of the Thanksgiving Day. The pictures shown in this video were more illustrative and I was able to understand more the things that happened. The first one was also good but it was shorter and all the information was summarized in some way. The good point in this video is that it gives you a quickly introduction to the topic.
ReplyDelete2. We assemble to pray
God teach us
There is no need to be worried anymore
Pray to the lord, because he will never forget us.
God is always with us
With his glorious kingdom
If we are with him, we will be whole
We are by his side.
We are all with God
He will always be by our sides
Forget all bad things
Honor God and make us whole.
Carlos, this is beautiful. Several minor suggestions:
DeleteV.1 "God teachES us"
V. 2 & V 3 "we will be whole" sounds good in V. 2, but I would not repeat it in V. 3. I would just leave "free," as there is no better word for that!
Also in V 3 I would say "by our side," even though "we" are plural.
Great job!
Thanks,
Diana
1 - Although the second video has more details about the thanksgiving, it also has much information which could be omitted without change the comprehension about the topic. In my opinion the first one is more concrete, with only the necessary information about the thanksgiving. It makes the listener understand the main idea about the topic without spend much time.
ReplyDelete2 -
People get together praying to God.
God make us a better people
Bad people can't touch us anymore
Give honor to God because he doesn't forget us.
God is on our side guiding us
He is taking care of his kingdom
If we are on the Lord's side, we'll always be winners
All honor to God, who is always together with us.
All people give glory to Lord because he is our leader
We ask God for he to protect us
We pray his people can survive the problems
That the name of God be ever glorified
God give us freedom.
Hi, Fabricio. This is a lovely paraphrase. Attention to V. 3, line 2: I would say 'We ask God to protect us
Deleteand help us survive our difficulties."
All else is fine.
Thanks,
Diana
Cássio - Thanksgiving questions
ReplyDelete1- Which video is more informative? Which do you like better? Why?
The second one give us more detailed informations about the origin and historic facts of Thanksgiving. I liked the both, but it depends on the objective of watching. For example, if you just need to know a notion about the holiday it better for you watch the video from History Channel. But if you need study more and want to have exact informations is better for you watch the second video.
2 - The hymn talk about how we should be grateful to God. Because He always is with us, helping us, making us feel better, keeping the evil far way from us.
i agree with you cazio! i like better the second one couse gives you better information more details and more pictures
DeleteI think the second one is more informative because it give us more specific information about the Thanksgiving day. I prefer the second one. I had not know very well about Thanksgiving day, due this video I have learned a lot about the origin, history and some way to celebrate it. Compare the two video, the second give us more details which can let us know more about it.
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch hymn "We Gather Together" is talk about all of people together to thanks for the given by the god. When people have trouble and challenge, god give people belief and people can survive in all of trouble. People sing this song to thanks for all of given.
i like more the second video, it gives you better idea about the origin of the Thanksgiving tradition. I like it because has more pictures and the history is better explained., it explains briefly the history and the traditions

Jen, this is an excellent paraphrase. I would just recommend changing the last line of V. 1 to something like: "Let us not forget that we belong to God." Also, in V. 3 your use of "laud" meaning "praise" is not wrong, but it is a little antiquated! Fine otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Diana
